Cylindro-Conical Dryer
Vertical dryers are used for gentle handling and reliable discharge. The condry® cylindro-conical dryer combines vertical drying with a conical bottom to support gravity-driven emptying within a compact layout. Dedicated to pharmaceutical applications, it reflects Comber’s experience in drying sensitive products under cGMP conditions.
Cylindro-Conical Dryer – Comber Condry powered by De Dietrich
The cylindro-conical geometry combines gravity-assisted discharge with controlled agitation, supporting uniform drying while limiting mechanical stress on the product. This configuration is particularly suited to APIs and pharmaceutical intermediates where crystal integrity and batch reproducibility are essential.
Beyond its pharmaceutical execution, the cylindro-conical geometry offers inherent process advantages. Gravity-assisted discharge supports reliable emptying of the vessel, even with cohesive products, while the vertical configuration provides efficient drying capacity within a compact footprint. Compared to purely conical dryers, the cylindro-conical design also limits overall height constraints, simplifying integration in existing buildings without compromising drying performance.
Performance Driven by Pharmaceutical Design Requirements
performance is defined by how the equipment design supports gentle drying, clean operation and reliable discharge throughout pharmaceutical production campaigns.
Gentle drying and complete discharge
The vertical geometry promotes natural product flow toward the outlet, while the fully heated double-helical agitator ensures homogeneous heat transfer. This combination supports efficient drying and complete discharge without excessive shear.
cGMP-oriented mechanical design
The condry® dryer features a top-entry agitator, with no couplings or mechanical components located in the product area. The fully welded construction, absence of bolts and rounded internal edges contribute to high cleanability and compliance with pharmaceutical design expectations.
Inspection, cleaning and operational flexibility
The dead-space-free internal geometry supports efficient cleaning and inspection. In most installations, the dryer is equipped with an optional openable vessel design, facilitating visual inspection and cleaning between campaigns.
ATEX compliance
ATEX-compliant configurations are available where required, allowing safe operation in environments involving flammable solvents.
Trials & rentals
For process evaluation and scale-up, the De Dietrich Tech Lab provides dedicated facilities where drying behaviour can be assessed under representative pharmaceutical conditions prior to industrial implementation.
